Writtle
Tennis is a small but thriving village club based in Paradise Road. A
survey amongst members last year highlighted its friendliness towards new
members as one of its major selling points. We have a qualified coach who
runs group or one-on-one coaching and the courts are all newly
re-surfaced. In
the summer there are club sessions on a Wednesday and Friday evening
starting at around 8p.m. and usually going on until about 10p.m. (followed
by a drink in the bar for some members!) and a Sunday morning from 10 a.m.
until about 12.30-1pm. In the
winter the only difference is the Friday evening when this is only for
pre-arranged doubles and a small charge is made for use of the
floodlights. All full members
are welcome to the club sessions. Mondays
is also club night and open to peak and off-peak members. We are also now
integrating our best Junior members into adult evenings to speed their
development. Other
events that take place during the year are various American Tournaments
where members and non-members are welcome to participate and this is a fun
and enjoyable afternoon. A
club tournament and a handicap tournament take place during the summer
over a few weeks culminating in a finals day where the lucky winners and
runners up are presented with trophies and the winners have the honour of
their names being inscribed on the board in the hut.
If you wish to enter these please fill in the form on the reverse
of the membership form. Any
events arranged will be detailed on our newsletter which you will receive
from time to time and keep an eye on the notice board.
Teams
of ladies/mens/mixed doubles/veterans are entered in various leagues
during the winter and summer and if you wish to become a member of one of
the teams please contact the secretary.
We must emphasise that this is definitely not for beginners but for
our better players! We also
have a very talented and enthusiastic junior section which have a club
morning on a Saturday and play matches in a league.
